Chinese PPGI Industry -- You Must Know

Every year foreign clients purchase a lot of PPGI (PPGL) from China, some of them have been buying for 3 years, 5 years, even more than 10 years. But do you really know Chinese PPGI industry? Let’s see.

In general PPGI quality can be divided into 4 main levels from low to high.

First comes the lowest one, BoXing quality, BoXing is a region which is famous for PPGI with cheap price and very poor quality. Main global markets of it are African countries and southeast Asian countries. Color duration may be one or two years, three years if one gets luck, several months when the using area is damp or salty. Over 95% of BoXing quality is like this, zinc coating of the base metal is 8-12g, paint coating 8-10um on top and 3-4um on back. Not only the paint coating is thin, but the paint quality is also bad. Due to the low price, they are not capable of affording good quality materials.

Then comes medium PPGI from mainstream private mills, no matter the paint quality or coating thickness, is better than BoXing. For most buyers, it’s hard to distinguish the difference between them. This level is mostly welcomed and popular in Chinese domestic market. There are 4-5 main famous brands, zinc coating of the base metal is 18-25g, dry paint coating 12-15um on top and 5um on back. The color duration can be 3-5 years.

Medium-high level is PPGI from Chinese governmental factories, very reliable quality, good paint, thick coating, but the price is hard to be accepted by most clients. Zinc coating of the base metal is 80g mainly, dry paint coating 20-25um on top and 5-7um on back. Color duration is more than 7 years. This kind of PPGI is used for some big projects, not for private roofing or construction.

High level PPGI from Bao Steel and Bluescope, excellent quality with extra thick coating. Very few clients can buy with their prices. Zinc coating of base metal can be 120-180g, dry paint coating 25-30um on top and 7-9um on back. Color duration can be more than 10 years. This type of PPGI is not only for big projects, but also for important ones.
