Schedule which you must know about Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year (CNY) is the biggest and most important festival in China, during this period of time, export orders and shipments are affected greatly by it.

Every year CNY is not regular, in 2021 it is on 12^th Feb., official holidays are usually 7 days, but in fact they are longer with most people, start about a week earlier and finish one week later. For steel factories, people rest even longer, two weeks in advance, from the beginning of Feb. the vacation mood has already started, orders are stopped being taken gradually by all factories. This is because for one reason, the holidays are approaching, many productions will stop. For another reason, in winter of northern China, the weather is too cold to conduct the construction. And two weeks after official holidays which is around the end of this month, they can only get back to work again one after another. So actually there is a big blank of order time in this month.

After Chinese New Year, the price could be higher because March and April are high season for global trading of steel products. By the influence of large quantity which factories took before CNY, the delivery time after it can be longer than before as well.

As we know, the ocean freight of containers got much higher from the second half of 2020 than previous due to COVID 19. Cost of some shipping lines were doubled, a few even triple and quadruple. This situation doesn’t change much for now and in short term. A lot of containers can not be withdrew as many vessels are waiting to reach the ports in different countries. That means the ocean freight will keep at a high level and the shipping space is extremely tight before Chinese New Year, overbooking is quite common during that time. So conditions like no freight space, shipment delay, vessel delay, booked the container but didn’t get finally are not difficult to understand.

Generally speaking, the month of Chinese New Year is quite different with usual times. Everything, especially the orders, better to be settled and confirmed before it. Please understand our purpose is to make every client’s goods to be sent as soon as possible, safely and smoothly.
