Galvalume Steel Sheet & Coil (GL / AZ Coated)

Galvalume steel with AZ55-AZ150 aluminum-zinc alloy coating, combining the corrosion resistance of aluminum with the edge protection of zinc for roofing, decking and fabrication.

AZ55 - AZ150 Coating 0.2 - 4.0 mm Self-Healing Cut Edge Stock Available

Overview

MESCO supplies galvalume steel sheet and coil with aluminum-zinc alloy coating, widely known as GL or Aluzinc. The coating, typically 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc and 1.6% silicon, delivers roughly four to five times the corrosion resistance of conventional galvanized steel while keeping the cut-edge protection that pure aluminum coatings lack.

Our GL material is produced to DX51D+AZ, DX52D+AZ and S280GD+AZ specifications, in coating weights from AZ55 to AZ150, and is stocked in common gauges for fast delivery to roofing, construction, appliance and general fabrication customers.

What Is Galvalume Steel?

Galvalume steel is cold-rolled steel coated with a hot-dipped aluminum-zinc alloy. The aluminum content forms a stable, barrier-type oxide layer that resists atmospheric corrosion, while the zinc content provides sacrificial protection at scratches and cut edges. This combination makes GL an excellent choice for outdoor panels and long-life building products.

Coating Options

CoatingCoating WeightTypical Use
AZ5555 g/m2Interior panels, general fabrication
AZ100100 g/m2Roofing, wall cladding, decking
AZ150150 g/m2Marine, agricultural and heavy-duty exposure

Key Features & Benefits

  • Superior corrosion resistance: 4-5x longer service life than galvanized in most atmospheres.
  • Self-healing cut edges: zinc in the coating protects exposed edges from rust creep.
  • Heat reflective: the metallic surface reflects radiant heat, reducing thermal load.
  • Good formability: suitable for roll forming, bending, stamping and profiling.
  • Paintable surface: an ideal substrate for color coating lines.
  • Ready stock: common gauges available for immediate dispatch.

Applications

  • Roofing sheets, wall cladding and roof tiles
  • Floor decking and structural panels
  • Fencing, agricultural buildings and storage sheds
  • Air conditioning housings and appliance parts
  • Substrate for color-coated and laminated steel lines
  • Gutters, flashings and general sheet metal work

Quality Control

Coil coating weight is verified by thickness gauge and weigh-strip testing, and mechanical properties are confirmed per batch. Surface quality is inspected against spangle, oiling and coating uniformity standards, and export packing protects edges and surfaces during transit.

FAQ

What is the difference between galvalume and galvanized steel?

Galvalume uses an aluminum-zinc alloy coating that resists corrosion 4-5 times longer than pure zinc galvanizing, while still protecting cut edges through its zinc content.

Which coating weight should I use?

AZ100 suits most roofing and cladding applications. Use AZ150 for marine or aggressive environments and AZ55 for interior panels.

Can you supply slit coils?

Yes, we slit coils to your width and can also cut sheets to length.

Do you have stock?

Common gauges are kept in stock for fast delivery; other sizes are scheduled from the mill.

Is galvalume suitable for painting?

Yes, GL is an excellent substrate for color coating, and MESCO also supplies color-coated products on request.
