Overview
MESCO supplies powder coated steel sheet and coil for manufacturers who need a heavy-duty, environmentally clean finish. In powder coating, electrostatically charged epoxy or polyester powder is applied to the steel surface and cured into a seamless film - no solvents, no VOC emissions and no paint runs, at film builds two to four times thicker than liquid paint.

What Is Powder Coated Steel?
Powder coated steel is flat or formed steel finished with a thermoset polymer powder rather than liquid paint. The powder is electrostatically sprayed so it wraps edges and uniformily covers complex shapes, then cured at 180-200 C into a dense, cross-linked film. Compared with liquid paint, powder coatings deliver higher edge protection, better chemical resistance and near-zero overspray waste, and the cured film contains no solvents at all.

Finishing starts with surface preparation: degreasing and conversion coating create the bond layer that powder performance depends on. During coating we control film weight, cure temperature and line speed, then test every batch for color difference, gloss, adhesion (cross-hatch), cupping, impact and pencil hardness. Salt spray testing is performed per schedule or on request, and full QC documentation accompanies each shipment.

Powder coating versus liquid paint - which should I choose?
Powder coating wins on film build, edge protection, chemical resistance and environmental compliance. Liquid paint is mainly chosen for very thin films or field repainting, which powder does not cover.
Can the coated sheet be bent or formed after coating?
Yes. Flexible powder systems hold adhesion on moderate bends; for deep forming we recommend formable powder grades and can validate them on your tooling.
Can you match a custom color?
Yes. We match RAL, Pantone or physical samples and keep the formula on file so reorders stay consistent.
Is powder coating food safe?
Cured polyester powders are widely used on appliance exteriors. For food-contact surfaces please tell us the application so we can recommend compliant systems.
What is the typical lead time?
Standard RAL colors ship in 2-4 weeks; custom-matched colors add 7-10 days for approval samples.
