Wear-Resistant Steel Plate (NM400/NM500)
Wear-Resistant Steel Plate (NM400/NM500)
High-hardness wear-resistant steel plate in NM400, NM500 and equivalent grades, with hardness from 360 to 530 HB for mining, earthmoving and heavy equipment liners.
Overview
MESCO supplies wear-resistant steel plate for mining, earthmoving, recycling, concrete and heavy engineering applications. NM400 and NM500 plates deliver hardness from 360 to 530 HB, extending the service life of wear liners, buckets, chutes, hoppers and crusher components by several times compared with ordinary structural steel.
We supply equivalent grades such as HARDOX 400/450 and provide cutting, bending, drilling and welding preparation so your parts arrive production-ready.
What Is Wear-Resistant Steel?
Wear-resistant steel is a quenched and tempered low-alloy plate engineered for hardness and abrasion resistance. Its high surface hardness resists scratching and gouging from rocks, ores and debris, while the steel keeps enough toughness to survive impact without cracking. Using wear plate where abrasion is high dramatically reduces downtime and replacement cost.
Grade Comparison
| Grade | Hardness | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| NM360 | 360 - 400 HB | Moderate abrasion, chutes, liners |
| NM400 | 400 - 440 HB | Buckets, hoppers, crusher parts |
| NM450 | 450 - 490 HB | High abrasion, heavy impact |
| NM500 | 480 - 530 HB | Severe abrasion, hardest wear parts |
Key Features & Benefits
- Long service life: hardness up to 530 HB extends wear part life several times.
- Impact toughness: quenched-tempered structure resists cracking under impact.
- Weldable: low carbon equivalent supports field and shop welding.
- Formable: bends into chutes, hoppers and curved liners.
- Cut-to-size: plasma and flame cutting to your drawing.
- Grade flexibility: NM and equivalent international grades available.

Applications
- Mining buckets, chutes, hoppers and crusher liners
- Earthmoving and construction equipment wear parts
- Dump truck bodies and wear liners
- Recycling and shredding plant components
- Concrete mixers and pumps
- Agricultural and forestry wear plates
Quality Control
Hardness is verified by Brinell testing per plate, and chemical composition is checked for weldability. Cut edges are inspected for heat-affected defects, and each plate carries grade, heat and hardness identification.

FAQ
What is the difference between NM400 and NM500?
NM500 is harder (480-530 HB vs 400-440 HB) and lasts longer under severe abrasion, while NM400 offers a better balance of hardness and impact toughness.
Can you cut plates to my drawing?
Yes, we provide plasma and flame cutting, plus bending, drilling and beveling to your drawing.
Is wear-resistant steel weldable?
Yes, NM grades have a low carbon equivalent and can be welded with appropriate preheat and low-hydrogen consumables.
Do you supply equivalent grades such as HARDOX?
Yes, we supply NM equivalents of HARDOX 400, 450 and 500 at competitive pricing.
Do you provide hardness certificates?
Yes, Brinell hardness test certificates are provided with each plate or batch.
